Superside World F1 Sidecar Championship Race 8, Le Mans, France 20-21st September 2008.
THE EVENT
The closing round of the 2008 Superside Sidecar World Championship was to be held at the historic French circuit of Le Mans.
Curiously, the event also incorporated a round of the World Championship Truck Grand Prix. Le Mans is a technically demanding circuit, with no less than four hairpin corners, some very fast sweeping curves, and a couple of fast chicanes for good measure.
We have pretty much stayed around 10th in the standings for the World Championship all year but we needed to finish this race no further than three places behind our nearest rival, Slovenian Milan Spendal to maintain our top-ten position on the World.
Matt Dix, Shaun Parker at Oulton Park with NG Road Racing
Oulton Park is a lovely undulating circuit located in Chester with two fast chicanes three steep inclines and a banked hairpin.
The day dawned bright with hardly any breeze and had promises of being a great day for racing, not too hot but not wet either which was nice after the Pembrey round! Matt and Shaun rose refreshed and ready for the days racing after their practice day the previous day to help Shaun learn the track as he had not raced their before.
BIRCHALL BROTHERS TAKE BRONZE MEDAL IN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Ben and Tom Birchall wrapped up their 2008 FIM Superside World Championship campaign, with a fine fourth place in the final race of the season at Le Mans in France at the weekend, which clinched third place in the world rankings and the bronze award for the Mansfield brothers.
The GP circuit at Brands is just a fantastic place to race at and what a way to round out the Bemsee season. Many thanks to all at Bemsee, the officials, marshals, doctors, scrutineers, timekeepers, who have I missed? Everyone does a superb job and it's been an especially good year to be racing with the club. Thanks to The Pottingers for the use of their chair wheel, saved us a lot of bother ! Hope you don't bruise up to bad Gordon.
Congratulations to Ben 'Bennyboy' Holland and Rickie-Lee Stevens, 2008 Bemsee F1 Champions.

It was always going to be an uphill task for outgoing world champions Tim Reeves and Patrick Farrance to lift the trophy for the fourth year in succession but they gave it their best shot at Le Mans by securing the win in the final round of the FIM Sidecar World Championship only to see arch rivals Pekka Paivarinta and Timo Karttiala complete the race in their tyre tracks to take the championship by a margin of just two points.
